Being hated because of your appearance or for any reason for that matter is not a feeling you ever want to experience. I realize post election there were and are a lot of divides amongst the people of our country and it’s sad to see that people still operate out of hate. After the encounter with that man I sat in my car in silence and wanted to feel some type of way about it but instead I had peace rather than anger and said "Lord, like you I need to love him anyway."
It’s a tough pill to swallow at times to respond in love when others attack you, curse you; mean you harm or even just misunderstand you based on a belief, appearance or opinion. The flesh will want to rise up in retaliation or in hate, but God has called his children to LOVE. This man going out of his way to express his hate towards me humbled me in the sense that Christ went through much worse and yet, still completed his task at the cross out of love for ALL mankind. They did more than just say I refuse to hold a door open for you, but they called Him out of his name, challenged who He was, spit on Him, cursed Him, tortured Him, put Him to death and shamed Him. Yet and still He responded in love. He still showed compassion and grace towards the very ones that were afflicting pain upon Him. He knew what His Father called Him to do and He did it.
We are also God’s children and He has called us to the same mandate, to love one another, and to love our enemies.
People may make it difficult for you sometimes, but pray for them and remember we love because He first loved us.
